Exactly.
and - Apologies are fine.....but really, apologizing for some one else is basically just bringing it up again.
Leave it alone and let the player move on.

An earlier post in this thread named Paul Friesen as the Winnipeg reporter who crossed the line in his questioning of Connor Bedard about the Corey Perry saga. I've never heard of Friesen before, so I searched online to learn a bit about Friesen via his news articles.. FWIW, I invite you to read this recent Winnipeg Sun post:
A November to remember, and forget, for Blackhawks' Connor Bedard
I generally regard most sports writers and tabloid reporters as kindred spirits, but this Sun article is a pretty good read, IMO.

Feel bad for the kid. The Hawks should also be apologizing as far as i am concerned as their previous actions helped foster this as now it seems everyone views the organization with a level of skepticism is just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

The reporter could have asked the question in a more generic way and at a different time but they were just doing their job and likely what their bosses asked them to do.
Part of being a journalist is to ask these kinds of questions however, you need to do so in a respectful manner and at a better time. On the flip side, part of being a journalist is also knowing when not to ask these kinds of questions.
The apology should have come from the reporter and his employer first and foremost. It is great on the Jets owner but is he going to apologize every time a beat reporter crosses the line?

He's playing the long game for when Bedard becomes a potential UFA in 11 years.

I suppose it's meant to be a nice gesture but personally apologising for something you had no part in seems like a weird concept.
Really? Doesn't seem unusual at all for someone in a community to apologize for the behaviour of others in that community. In this case, Chipman probably views all those around the Jets (fans, team, staff, reporters, etc.) as the Jets community.

Do you have any reason to believe that higher ups in the Hawks organization like haven't apologized to Bedard?
Perhaps folks who spread the rumour should also be apologizing.

Apologizing for that isn't babying, its showing respect. Very different things.

What are the odds he got on the wrong bus and just spitballed the apology to avoid embarrassment

You know why reporters ask questions like this……. Because people(fans, many of the posters in this thread) are the ones that want to know the answers, and would be the first ones to read, and then post on HF about the scandal….. I don’t really blame the reporters as they have to sell a product….

I wonder who the Hell started these rumours? I have the feeling it was a person that was there when Perry did his thing. And that person did not exactly know what happened, went to his/her fun and started making sh*t up. That person must be thrown to the moon.
I wonder though with the owner doing this, if that does not make the thing even bigger than it is. Poor Bedard is gonna think about this constantly.

Absolutely. The perpetuators should.
But have the Hawks? I dunno.
What I do know though is they have a history of sweeping sh*t they don't want to acknowledge under a rug. Until they establish a track record respecting people do they deserve the benefit of the doubt?
Oh that's right NOW they have a safe workplace policy.

Personally, I think that's absolute nonsense. Is there anyone of importance from the Beach era still with the Hawks? Similar to the Ship of Theseus problem, how much of an organization needs to change before it is effectively a new organization?

Many have walked the plank. Even the elder Wirtz. But the captain is still a Wirtz...for what it is worth.
Anybow....public perception don't give a sh*t about philosophy in cases like this. Nor do I.

Why is that unbelievable? Every other post around here had to do with the same rumour - plus a bunch of juvenile mom jokes fueled by those rumours. This place was so bad I stopped reading so, collectively speaking, HF is really in no position to call out the reporters (not directed to you personally).
Yeah fair enough, I personally thought it was disgusting. I just thought the media should be held to higher standards.
