M&M ORNAMENTS WITH SVG FILE (2024)

Hey Everyone! Ken here withKen's Kreations.

Every year I make a themed Christmas project for my family. Last year I madeChristmas Frames(Click Here For The Post). Well, this year the theme is based around glass Christmas ornaments. My brother is a HUGE M&M fan, so naturally, I wanted to make him some M&M glass ornaments! In 2014, I made these ornaments and they have since been a huge hit every year! Since this blog post, the original SVG file had some request issues and I had to redesign the file. So, it just made sense to update this blog post with the YouTube Video Tutorial, The New SVG File, and Updated Instructions With Supply List.

Here is the original 5 colors I made in 2014:

2021 UPDATE - 6 M&M'S

Like I said earlier, I have updated my process a bit since 2014 based on user feedback and how well my brother's ornaments held up. I am more of a visually learning so I have made a quick YouTube video on how to make these ornaments. Take a peek at this short video to see how to make these ornaments, and then below the video I have links to the products used and of course how to get the SVG file!

You can use any Cutting Machine That Can Use SVG Files. I prefer to use this machine as it has a small footprint.I preferred using these over the glass, as the glass is fragile and my brother broke a few that needed to be replaced. I also feel the plastic gives it a nicer reflection.I was so much happier with how the color pour drained and dried. I used the American Crafts, but any brand would work.In the video above we tested many different types of vinyl.I am a huge fan of Cricut Cutting Machines, but not their material at the moment. Even though Cricut will push for you to use Smart Materials with yourCricut Joy Machine, I recommend using your favoriteVinylon theStandard Cricut Joy Mat. TheCricut Smart Materialmay cut without a mat, but it does not play well when weeding and transferring.

These ornaments were so simple to make. First, you start off withClear Plastic Disc Ornamentsthatmost resemble the size of an M&M. You take the cap of the ornaments and squeeze the paint into the top of the ornament. Simply rotate theClear Plastic Disc Ornamentsuntil the paint coats all of the insides of the ornaments. Then flip theClear Plastic Disc Ornamentsupside down onto a chopstick stabbed into a box of paper to let the excess paint run out of theClear Plastic Disc Ornaments.

The actual ornaments are super easy to put together!! The SVG file will need to upload as a Vector file inDesign Space. So how do you get the file?

The original file I had on this blog for free and was downloaded more than 10,000 times. I spent the past few weeks redesigning the file and have uploaded the completed file to my YouTube Member Page. Joining our YouTube Member program is a great way to support Ken's Kreations and in return, you earn exclusive perks including all past, future, and previous Patreon SVG files. The M&M file is included in Ken's Tribe .99 membership

The image will need to be ungrouped and then draw a box around each individual M&M and group them separately and already attached all the images to cut with perfect spacing. I added a color circle at 5 inches behind all the faces, before you ungroup the SVG you will want to size the M&M's to match the size of the ornament that you are using them on. I choose to cut each M&M separately while hiding/unhiding the rest of the M&M's. I transfer all layers of vinyl onto each M&M and then move on to the next one.You could also cut everything independently and just layer it using your own judgment

2014 ORIGINAL - 5 M&M'S

These ornaments were so simple to make. First, you start off withClear Glass Disc Ornament. This most resembles the size of an M&M. You take the cap of the ornaments and squeeze the acrylic pain into the top of the ornament. Simply rotate theClear Glass Disc Ornamentuntil the paint coats all of the inside of the ornaments. Then flip theClear Glass Disc Ornamentupside down onto a white piece of paper to let the excess paint run out of theClear Glass Disc Ornament. This will usually take overnight. Make sure to rotate theClear Glass Disc Ornamentevery 15 minutes for the first hour so the ornament does not dry to the sheet of paper.

To Make the M&M ornaments and face you will need the following items:

ITEMS NEEDED:

Once you have all of you shopping items the actually ornaments are super easy to out together!! The SVG file will need to uploaded as a Vector file inDesign Space. The image will need to be ungrouped and then draw a box around each individual M&M and group them separately. For myClear Glass Disc Ornamentthe best size was a height of 2.75. You will want to make sure you group and attach each layer depending on the color of vinyl used (i.e.: black eyes with mouth, white eyes with M) This will make layering much easier. Make sure to clean the ornament off with windex before applying any vinyl and useTransfer Tapeto apply each layer.

*You could also cut everything independently and just layer it using your own judgment*

Lets take a look at each one to see which face I used and the supplies needed:

For the Red M&M you will needRed Paint,Black VinylandWhite Vinyl. I went with the classic Red M&M face for this ornament:

For the Orange M&M you will needOrange Paint,Black Vinyl,White VinylandRed Vinylfor his tongue. The Orange M&M is the pretzel M&M and this faced seemed to match his fun personality in the commercials:

For the Yellow M&M you will needYellow Paint,Black VinylandWhite Vinyl. I love the Yellow M&M peanut character and his fun little smile, so naturally i used the classic Yellow M&M face.

M&M ORNAMENTS WITH SVG FILE (8)

For the Green M&M you will needGreen Paint,Black Vinyl,White VinylandGreen Vinylfor her lips. Naturally since this was the only SVG out of the characters that had lips and eye lashes, they belonged to the sassy Green M&M girl.

M&M ORNAMENTS WITH SVG FILE (9)

For the Blue M&M you will needBlue Paint,Black Vinyl,White VinylandRed Vinylfor his tongue. Now the Blue M&M was originally the crispy M&M character and he has a strong resemblance to the Yellow Peanut M&M, however the M&M SVG only had 4 faces. So I took the eyes from the Yellow M&M and the mouth from the Orange M&M and mirrored it inDesign Space. This way it gave it a completely different look for his face.

Sadly one of my favorite M&M characters was missing form this SVG set....Ms. Brown. I tried to find a clean SVG for her or try to make one of these work, however with her distinctive glasses I could not seem to either find one or reproduce her. Maybe before Christmas I will have some luck as my set is missing the Brains!

Well I hope you enjoyed thisKreation, especially you Russ (Ken's Brother who is reading this now and getting a sneak peek of his stocking stuffer).
