HUGH, Jesse
In Memoriam - Death has again thrust in his sickle and harvested the soul of little Jesse Hugh, only son of Brother A.A. and Sister Jesse Watson. This little messenger of joy was born into their home Jan. 3, 1808, and died June 13, 1898. He was a bright child and father and mother were very proud of him. But alas! “man man that is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble; he cometh forth like a flower and is soon cut down. Yea human life is as a bubble on the ocean, it passes and is gone forever. It is like a flying meteor, we look upon it, wonder, love and admire; but alas! we gaze and admire, it passes from our gaze, leaving the earth darker than before; but if we will only look up it has left a beautiful soft glow on the sky above us. God only lends these jewels of rarest beauty that we have learned H may take them to Himself and our souls with them. This tender bud of love has been transplanted to God's garden above. May the fond parents follow with an eye of faith on this little meteor’s life until they see it flashing in the world to come. And may its life lead them on to God. E.L.G.

Mrs. Lane was born in Washington County, Tenn., Nov. 28, 1847. Her parents moved to Savannah, Tenn., the same year, where she lived until June 2, 1868, when she was united in marriage to Thomas J. Lane of Greenville, Tenn. Since her marriage this has been her home till Dec. 30, 1885, when death called her away.
In early life she consecrated her life to the service of the Divine Master, in this service she has never faltered. She was a consistent member of the M.E. Church South in Savannah, till her marriage. On coming to Greenville she joined the Presbyterian Church and lived its communion till the time of her death. As a Christian she was quiet and unostentatious, yet always consistent, thus winning the confidence and esteem of all who knew her. She was noted for deeds of charity, which were done in such a quiet manner that her "left hand knew not what her right hand did."
In her last painful illness while cnosciousness lasted, her faith in her Saviour was unwavering, and her only regret at the approach of death was that she must leave her husband and children.
As a wife and mother she was all that a Christian wife and mother could be - so unselfish that she seemed to live only for her loved ones. She leaves a husband and three children to mourn her death. These have the sympathy of a large circle of relatives and friends.
In closing this imperfect sketch we cannot use mote fitting language than that of the Master whom she loved wo well: "She had done what she could."

McDOUGAL, Mr. A.G.
Mr. A.G. McDougal quietly breathed his last, Sunday Dec. 9, 1894, after an illness at his home, Savannah, Tennessee, of more than three months. During a long life of eighty-three years, Bro. McDougal had formed may acquaintances, and by kind words and generous deeds, had made strong and lasting friends. All who knew him will deeply regret his death. It was evient for some weeks before his death, that he was gradually yielding to the claims of mortality. Nor was Bro. McDougal unmindful of the near approach of death. He prepared to welcome the change from this life to a far better. Doubtless his business matters were well arranged and he did not fail to look after the spiritual. He was confident of finding perfect peace and rest in the City of God. After the funeral, which took place at his late home, Dec. 11 at 2, p.m., the Free Masons took charge of the remains and buried them in the cemetery of Savannah. We sympathise with the family of the deceased in this deep grief.
A suitable obituary will be written in the near future. - J.W. Smith.

THOMPSON, Little George

In Memoriam - little George Thompson, only son of A.K. “Pink” and Cora Guinn was born Dec. 9, 1897, and died Sept. 15, 1898, age nine months and 6 days. Sometimes, it seems, that God only gives us these little ones that we may learn to love them, then removes them this world to himself. But God doeth all things well, and he takes those we love in order to draw our hearts away from this world and fix our affection on heaven and life eternal. He knows what is for our spiritual and eternal welfare. So He has taken the only babe home to Himself, and thereby bids father and mother follow the babe to rest and heaven. May God's spirit fill the vacancy in the home and hearts of these our bereaved friends and draw their minds and hearts away from the fleeting things of earth, and forever fix them on God our Father, and thereby bind up their bleeding hearts. God alone can comfort. E.L.G.
